Steel H12MF
The composition has become well balanced and thanks to it the X12MF is so widely used. The letter “X” and the number “12” in the name indicate the average amount of chromium (CR) in the composition, it is 11-12.5%. As you know, chrome is an alloying additive responsible for the corrosion resistance of steel. Such an amount of this element in the composition allows us to consider X12MF relatively stainless steel. The carbon content (C), which is responsible for strength and hardness, is 1.45- 1.65 %. The hardness with proper heat treatment is 62-64 HRC, but as you know, high hardness entails an increase in fragility, and other alloying elements that increase the quality and technical characteristics of the steel, such as molybdenum ) 0.4-0.6%, Vanadium (V) 0.15-0.3%, manganese (MN) 0.15-0.45%, nickel (NI) up to 0.4%and in minimal quantities of silicon silicon (Si), phosphorus (p) and copper (CU). Based on all of the above, consider the pros and cons of the X12MF steel directly in the knives.
The advantages of steel x12MF for knives
Important! This steel cannot be called 100% stainless. Without proper care, especially after working with aggressive environments (after cutting lemon, meat cutting, etc.), small corrosion spots, the so -called pitting corrosion, can appear on the blade. In order for the knife to not lose its cutting properties and appearance, the blade after work, especially after working with fresh meat, the interaction of the blade with acid products (lemon, etc.), interaction with the humid environment, the knife is enough to rinse And wipe dry. In this case, a Kh12MF knife will serve you for many years.
